Case Study: Arc’teryx LITHOGRAPHICA

A long standing client of Hemlock, Arc’teryx  designs & manufactures premium, technical outerwear, gear & climbing equipment. For this post, we wanted to feature a recent project we have produced for this adventure loving brand.

LITHOGRAPHICA started out as a quarterly eJournal produced by Arc’teryx that told stories about who they were, things they liked and ideas they found interesting.  In the beginning of 2014, Arc’teryx turned to Hemlock to turn this eJournal into a tangible product that was representative of who they were as a company.

The new semi-annual printed version of Arc’teryx LITHOGRAPHICA was printed on 60lb Cougar Opaque Text paper using Hemlock’s new Heidelberg Speedmaster XL106 X3 UV 6 colour press.  Four colour UV process ink was used throughout. The finished pages were trimmed, gathered and folded to a flat size of 12″ x 17″.  The pages were then soft folded to make a finished size of 12″ x 8.5″ for display in newly opened Arc’teryx stores.

We love this piece in all aspects – the design and layout, the effective choice of paper and how it is being used by Arcteryx to connect its customers to its brand – through the experiences and stories from its staff and customers.  The newspaper-like feel of the printed LITHOGRAPHICA gives a photojournalistic quality that speaks to the in-the-moment and adventuring nature of the Arc’teryx brand.

The printed version of LITHOGRAPHICA is an excellent tool for combining all Arc’teryx’s highlighted athletic stories and business accomplishments into a semi-annual printed feature.  A great demonstration of how print can be used to help customers  connect with a brand.
